Joshua Abigail Mark McKenna Lucy WIU Music Students Honored

MACOMB, IL – Five students of Western Illinois University Associate Professor of Voice Penelope Shumate were chosen as award winners at the 2020 Central Region National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Online Student Auditions.

Student award winners are:

 

• Senior music education major Joshua Pitt, of Racine, WI, won second place (Upper College Musical Theatre Tenor/Baritone/Bass Division) and third place (Upper College Classical Tenor/Baritone/Bass Division)

• Senior music major Abigail Domann, of Pratt, KS, won second place (Lower College Musical Theatre Treble Division)

• Senior music major Mark Mixon, of Chicago, was selected as honorable mention (Upper College Classical Tenor/Baritone/Bass Division)

• Voice students McKenna Churchill, a senior music education major, of Canton, IL, and Lucy Rieke, a junior music education major, of Dwight, IL, were selected as semi-finalists in their division (Classical).

For 2019 and 2018, students in Shumate's studio have also placed and been selected as semi-finalists in the regional and national NATS Student Auditions.
