Football Federation of Armenia hosted women's international friendly tournament

Ahead of the launch of its first ever women's football strategy this month, the Football Federation of Armenia (FFA) staged an April international friendly tournament with visitors from Jordan, Lebanon and Lithuania taking part alongside the hosts.

The tournament, played in Yerevan and won by Lithuania, included three games for each participating team. It was the first event of its kind held since the beginning of the pandemic, offering supporters the opportunity to enjoy the action with safety guidelines strictly enforced and adhered to.

Armenia's success on the pitch, contributing to a new on-going record of four consecutive international matches unbeaten for the first time thanks to a win and two draws, is matched by impressive progress off it as they prepare for the launch of the new #OurGame strategy.

A new strategy to grow the game

Designed and implemented with support from UEFA, the new strategy will help the FFA inspire more women and girls to take up the game and develop the standard of female football within Armenia.

“We have a strong and comprehensive strategy, developed with tremendous support from UEFA alongside our mentors, Adam Walker and Maria Suchkova, and we’re rebuilding women's football in Armenia at all levels, starting with strong grassroots, competitive clubs, and ambitious national teams," said Anna Tadevosyan, president of the FFA women's football and futsal committee.

By using the tournament to gain media exposure with TV broadcasters and newspapers, the FFA was also able to gain national exposure to highlight the steps it is taking to grow women's football, promote a community spirit within the game and demonstrate the importance of sport's role in contributing to integration, equality and equity in society.

"We are confident that, over the next years, we’ll not only be present but increasingly become noticed, valued and respected, nationally and internationally,” added Tadevosyan.

A second edition of the tournament is already being planned in 2022 to build on the success of this inaugural event.
