28% of women in London have been sexually unfaithful to their partner, as shown in a landmark study by Gleeden, first extramarital dating site made by women with over 5.5 million members. Additionally, 34% of Londoners have kissed someone other than their partner without taking it further. In fact, London was above average in all categories, and topped the charts in all but two.

The full study, conducted by international market research group IFOP for Gleeden, looks at perceptions around female infidelity, the reasons for being unfaithful, and the rise of ‘virtual infidelity’ – sending flirty messages or sexting with someone other than their partner. This particular release focusses on London, however additional figures across the country are listed below.

The largest report since 2014:

For their tenth birthday, Gleeden, the first and largest extramarital dating app, have announced the close of the largest survey on infidelity in five years. The study surveyed 5,000 women across Europe and the UK, asking over 1,000 women in the UK alone.

Where London stands:

A staggering 36% of women in London have admitted to dreaming about having sex with an ex. This is high in comparison to the rest of the country, which stands at an average 30% of women. The highest region was the East of England, with 42% of women admitting to their naughty dreams, while only 25% of women in the Midlands were dreaming about their previous relationships.

It’s one thing to involuntarily dream about an ex, however some female Londoners have been taking things a step further, with 27% admitting to having masturbated while thinking about their previous lovers. This is above the national average of 23%, which was led by the East of England at 28%.

Believe it or not, 34% of women in London have kissed someone other than their partner, though have not gone any further. This is leads the national rankings, which determined a UK average of 26%. This means that one in three women in London have kissed someone outside of their established relationship.

Some women have gone further than a kiss, however, with Gleeden looking at the prevalence of oral sex outside of established relationships. In London, 27% of women have done this without going further. Again, this is the largest in the UK, which has an average of 21% – the highest in Europe (the European average stands at just 16% of women).

As for sex, a surprising 28% of women have had sex with someone other than their partner. This is vastly above the average, which is 22% across the UK. This means that London is the largest hub for marital infidelity. In contrast, the Midlands and South of England are the most faithful areas, at 20% of women.

A professional point of view:

François Kraus, Director of Gender, Sexuality and Sexual Health at IFOP, who conducted the study, explains the motivations behind infidelity:

“Because social stigma around female infidelity is a big issue in the UK, more women find themselves “sexually faithful”. This shows that the UK still has a very traditional view of infidelity. Extramarital affairs are an alternative to monogamy more common for men in the country. Female infidelity in the UK is one of the many symbols of the fight for sexual independence for women, by showing that they, like men, can decide to cheat only to satisfy their desires and fantasies, and because they were attracted to someone else.”
