महाराणा प्रताप सिंह सिसोदिया ( ज्येष्ठ शुक्ल तृतीया रविवार विक्रम संवत १५९७ तदनुसार ९ मई १५४०–१९ जनवरी १५९७) उदयपुरमेवाड में सिसोदिया राजपूत राजवंश के राजा थे। उनका नाम इतिहास में वीरता और दृढ प्रण के लिये अमर है। उन्होंने मुगल सम्राट अकबर की अधीनता स्वीकार नहीं की और कई सालों तक संघर्ष किया। महाराणा प्रताप सिंह ने मुगलों को कईं बार युद्ध में भी हराया।


उनका जन्म वर्तमान राजस्थान के कुम्भलगढ़ में महाराणा उदयसिंह एवं माता राणी जयवंत कँवर के घर हुआ था। लेखक जेम्स टॉड के अनुसार महाराणा प्रताप का जन्म मेवाड़ के कुंभलगढ में हुआ था। इतिहासकार विजय नाहर के अनुसार राजपूत समाज की परंपरा व महाराणा प्रताप की जन्म कुंडली व कालगणना के अनुसार महाराणा प्रताप का जन्म पाली के राजमहलों में हुआ।[4][5][6][7][8], १५७६ के हल्दीघाटी युद्ध में ५०० भील लोगो को साथ लेकर राणा प्रताप ने आमेर सरदार राजा मानसिंह के ८०,००० की सेना का सामना किया। हल्दीघाटी युद्ध में भील सरदार राणा पूंजा जी का योगदान सराहनीय रहा। शत्रु सेना से घिर चुके महाराणा प्रताप को झाला मानसिंह ने आपने प्राण दे कर बचाया ओर महाराणा को युद्ध भूमि छोड़ने के लिए बोला। शक्ति सिंह ने आपना अश्व दे कर महाराणा को बचाया। प्रिय अश्व चेतक की भी मृत्यु हुई। यह युद्ध तो केवल एक दिन चला परन्तु इसमें १७,००० लोग मारे गए। मेवाड़ को जीतने के लिये अकबर ने सभी प्रयास किये। महाराणा की हालत दिन-प्रतिदिन चिंताजनक होती चली गई। २५,००० सैनिकों के १२ साल तक गुजारे लायक अनुदान देकर भामाशाह भी अमर हुआ।
